We review the BMW G310 R from price to economy and all its features

MY mates over at Bike World have been getting to grips with the BMW G310 R this week:

Seat height and purchase price are often the first things that put people off when they’re new bike shopping.

New riders sit on a bike in a showroom, if their feet can’t touch the floor they get off and look for something else. If they can reach the floor they then reach for the price tag, if that is too high, newbie biker moves on to the next bike until they find one that suits.

BMW has addressed both of those areas with this, the new G310 R. BMW want to compete with small capacity bikes from the likes of KTM, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

A low seat and a low price suits the new to biking market perfectly.

It isn’t the fastest bike in the category, but it may well be the best built

At £4290 the single cylinder BM’ is going to be fiercely competitive. Built to the same exacting standards as the rest of the BMW range, but in a factory in Bangalore as opposed to Berlin, means the price to build is massively reduced, this in turn allows BMW to charge you less, which is nice.

But is it any good? The short answer is yes, thankfully.

The fit and finish of the panels and switch gear is as you would expect from BMW, the paint and graphics on the bike we rode gave me exactly the same feeling as any other bike in the BMW range, a feeling of quality.

The single cylinder motor is really smooth, the six-speed gearbox perfectly matched. There’s bags of steering lock and ABS as standard, so day to day riding in busy cities wont be a problem. The G310 R has an A2 licence friendly 34bhp and enough torque to shove you off roundabouts and corners with a smile on your face.

It isn’t the fastest bike in the category, but it may well be the best built.
