DRIVERS can now transform an Audi into a futuristic "robot-mobile" with a showroom upgrade.

The virtual exterior mirrors of the Audi e-Tron mean you will no longer have to glance out of your side windows at the wing mirrors.

They integrate a small camera with a resolution of 1,280 x 1,080 pixels.

A digitally processed image is then shown on a high-contrast 7-inch OLED displays in the interior.

The image brightness is adjusted automatically when driving through a tunnel.

A heating function also protects the camera from misting over or freezing.

The virtual exterior mirrors reduce the width of the vehicle by 15cm and can be folded manually.

The driver can enter different settings using the touchscreen function such as repositioning the image.

The displays adjust automatically to three driving situations: highway, turning, and parking.

Compared with standard mirrors, they reduce drag, improve aeroacoustics and minimise blind spots.

The system costs £1240 - but getting one fixed could add up.
