Their research, which analyses the last 10 years of road traffic accident data from the Department for Transport, has concluded that drivers are most likely to be injured in a car accident in Kingston Upon Hull.

The city, which is the fourth-largest in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, boasts a shocking 274 accidents for every 10,000 people - more than any other area in England and Wales outside of London.

What's more, data reveals that crashes in Hull have been rising steadily over the last three years following a dip after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Powys, which is second on the list, is the most dangerous place to drive in Wales with 258 recorded accidents for every 10,000 of the population, recording almost 134K crashes in the last 10 years.

North East Lincolnshire comes in at third, recording a total of 610 crashes in the last year.

When applying population filters, North East Lincolnshire amasses 255 crashes for every 10,000 occupants in the area - over 280% more crashes than the safest area to drive in the UK.

Unsurprisingly, London’s local boroughs take up each place of the top 10 most likely areas to get into an accident in the entire UK.

The City of London ranked top, with Westminster in second and Kensington and Chelsea in third.

On the flip side, Wigan is among the safest areas to drive in the UK with 84 crashes for every 10,000 occupants, with Stockport close behind.

Elsewhere, new data has revealed that thousands of drivers are being charged up to £250 to park outside their own homes under controversial rules.

The move has been slammed as a local council 'cash grab' targeting motorists.

And the country's speeding hotspots have been mapped, with one county seeing one in five drivers caught out.
