Electric black cab is tested in extreme conditions from -15C in the Arctic to 40C in the desert
These Coventry-built cabs will be sold globally and London Taxi Company had to prove the batteries stood up to harsh conditions

WAIT, what? A black cab from the Arctic to Arizona? Jeez, how much was that fare?
Answer: Expensive.
But, no. These pictures show the new electric cab being tested at -15C in the big freezer and at 40C in the desert.
A bit extreme for the streets of London, you might think?
Maybe, yes, except these Coventry-built cabs will be sold globally and London Taxi Company had to prove the batteries stood up to such harsh conditions.

There’s more.
Much of the tech has come from Volvo – so it’ll be good – and they’ll cost around £48,000 when they come out this autumn, similar to the current TX4 diesel.
Next question. Will they kill off the TX4?
Eventually, yes. From January 1 next year, all new London taxis must be “zero emissions capable” – and if they have an engine, it must be petrol.
This electric black cab has a range of 70 miles and if the driver is unable to recharge, there’s a 1.3-litre petrol engine as back-up. That kicks in to maintain the battery level but it doesn’t drive the wheels.
One last thing. As well as being clean and whisper quiet, these electric cabs have a panoramic glass roof for punters to see the sights. Niiice.
LTC will also launch an electric van next year.
Peugeot update
PEUGEOT is updating the 308 with all the good stuff from the 3008 SUV (European Car of the Year).
That means a bigger 9.7in screen, 3D TomTom Live satnav, CarPlay, and a list of safety tech as long as your arm.
Out September from £16,000. The 308 GTi has a new blue/black paint job.
