The cars most likely to get you a Tinder date this Valentine’s Day – and a nice motor is more important than a sense of humour

The type of car you drive could make all the difference for your love life this Valentine's Day

THE type of car you drive could help you pick up the perfect Tinder date this Valentine's Day - and it's not just men swiping right for their favourite motors.

A new study has revealed the cars that are most attractive to potential dates, with at least one in seven Brits admitting the car a person drives has some impact on their decision to choose them as a partner for the night.

A survey by Confused.com found females were most likely to swipe right to men with practical motors, while males were most attracted to females with slightly more luxurious cars.

The Audi A4 was the most appealing for Tinder matches but surprisingly some more mundane motors also proved popular. A Ford Fiesta, Fiat Punto and Nissan Micra all scored highly in securing a date.

Not surprisingly, the survey also found that more than half of the female population would be turned off if their date pulled up in a "boy racer" style car - sorry to disappoint, lads.

In fact, ladies would rather be picked up for a night on the town in a "banger" over a supped-up street racer. A 4x4 is actually your safest bet.

Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com, says: “Our Tinder experiment proves your chances of getting a swipe right really can come down to the car you drive.

"Unfortunately, most drivers can’t afford to splash out on a new car just to improve their luck in love."

Interestingly, another survey found some British singletons actually think it is more important that their date has a nice car rather than a sense of humour.

Research by Honda UK found 12 per cent of Brits would rather be picked up in a flashy motor than giggle the evening away with their date.

A total of 73 per cent of romantics also said that it is vital to clean your car for a special night on the town, while at least 12 per cent said a dirty car would be enough to rule out a second date with their new partner.

Phil Webb, head of cars at Honda UK, added: “The research also found that almost one in five of those in London and the West Midlands consider having a nice car far more important than dress sense and a generous date who pays the bill.

"Our advice is to make sure the car is clean and tidy and if that fails, turn up the charm levels to maximum.”
