Volvo drivers can now buy a new car and arrange deals online in just 15 minutes

Customers can now fully customise cars in just 15 minutes

VOLVO’S new website will let Brits buy a car online in a few clicks as if they were shopping at Amazon.

Customers can fully configure cars, value their old one for part-exchange, arrange finance and sign the contract in 15 minutes.

The move has been made as more and more shop for goods and services on the web.

But Volvo’s UK boss Jon Wakefield pointed out the platform is not intended to signal the death of showrooms.

He said: “Our retailers are very much key to the new website. They still provide the vehicles and set the prices.”

The idea of Volvo Online is to give those who want to do it all quickly online - and who know exactly what they want - that option.

But for those who want help from a dealer they can start the process online and then pop into a dealer to finish - or vice versa.

A few other car makers, including Ford, Peugeot and Hyundai, have similar online purchasing portals but are not as comprehensive, for example there is no part-exchange or e-signing.

Peugeot is the closest to Volvo but only when buying via finance. Volvo’s site offers that plus leasing, which is becoming increasingly popular, and buying outright.

Jon Wakefield: “When buying a car there is quite a lot to think about - in terms of picking extras and the type of finance, for example. So we spent a lot of time getting that right for buyers doing it online.

“Clearly, it is not as straightforward as buying a pair of trousers - but there is no reason why Brits won’t buy cars that way if we get the website right.”

“From start to finish, the entire process can take as little as 15 to 20 minutes to complete – less than it takes most Brits to do their weekly grocery shopping.”
