Lego is releasing a Top Gear set so petrolhead fans can play The Stig at home

LEGO is revving up to release a Top Gear set so fans of the TV show can play at home.

The ever-popular toy for kids, not to mention fully-grown adults, has teamed up with BBC Studios to produce the kit.

Due to launch next year the Technics set is said to be designed to provide children – ages nine and above - with the challenge of building models to mirror some functionality of their real-world counterparts and give the builder something to think about.

Previously the top company has teamed up with Land Rover to create a Lego Technics kit of the vehicle.

Which means though there are unlikely to be any Top Gear-themed mini figures to create.

BBC Studio’s Jason Easy said: "We are extremely excited to have partnered with Lego Technic.

“Both brands enjoy a very close relationship with their fans; it’s certainly a natural fit for both, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the Lego Technic set hit the shelves next year.”

The set is said to have been “inspired” by the series although it remains to be seen if the current line-up of presenters Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris make an appearance. Not to mention The Stig.

While long-term fans of the show seem to think a little of the sparkle in recent years it is still a big-hitter for the corporation.

It is still BBC2’s biggest show and has a massive following around the world, providing BBC Worldwide with one of its most valuable exports.

An estimated 350million viewers around the world are said to have seen the show.

Former presenter Jeremy Clarkson was voted the best Top Gear host of all time in a recent poll.

The Sun columnist, 59, topped a poll by the Radio Times — securing nearly a third of the votes.

His co-stars on The Grand Tour, James May and Richard Hammond, came second and third respectively.

Current host Chris Harris was fourth and Tiff Needell fifth.

Matt LeBlanc took sixth place, while the other current hosts of the show, Paddy McGuiness and Freddie Flintoff, came in at seventh and eighth.

The BBC motoring show has had 33 presenters over a time span of 42 years.
