She told during the royal couple’s trip to Lahore on Thursday: "It was amazing seeing some of the geography yesterday, but then to see some of the community activities today has been really special.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton had spent a full day of engagements in Lahore with a visit to the SOS Children’s Village, taking part in a showcase cricket match as well as visits to the Badshahi Mosque.

They rounded off the day visiting sick children who were receiving treatment in a cancer hospital.

Kate added: "William and I really wanted to come and see an SOS Children's Village like this.

“There's so many vulnerable women here but they've really used their positivity and the support that the Village here provides them ... to support and protect the next generation of children in their care and give them the best possible start to their future lives."

Their penultimate day in Pakistan though ended on a dramatic note after their plane was caught in a storm and had to return to Lahore after being unable to land in Islamabad.

But the last day of the trip ended gently as they got to play with adorable puppies during a visit to the Army Canine Centre in Islamabad.

William and Kate joined the handlers as they train dogs to recognise and scout out hidden explosive materials.

This comes after the couple were forced to reschedule the last day of their Pakistan tour after their plane got caught in a thunderstorm.

William and Kate were due to fly over the Khyber Pass for an engagement on Friday, but a "pretty bad storm" saw their flight from Lahore to Islamabad turn back on Thursday evening.

The couple stayed at the Pearl Continental Hotel in the capital of Punjab overnight following two aborted landings by the RAF Voyager pilot.

Strikes of lightning could be seen from the plane near the right wing as it shook with heavy turbulence.
