Grant County Sheriff's Office shared a picture of the tablets on Facebook, warning that the amount of methamphetamine in the area had "grown tremendously" over the past few years.

Sheriff Nate Dreckman wrote: "We are doing what we can to keep it away from our young people; however with this item we found, it really changes the game.

"Please be vigilant this Halloween (and in the future) and check all the candy that your child receives.

"There is not only the concern of the "meth candy," but there are many products from other states (where it's legal) that are candy products containing the active ingredient of marijuana, which can be detrimental to the health of a child.

"So please take the time to check items after Tricker Treating."

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that increases the amount of the natural chemical dopamine in the brain and makes the user want to repeat the experience.

Even taking small amounts can lead to faster breathing, rapid/ irregular heartbeat and increased blood pressure and body temperature.

The latest warning comes after an Ohio five-year-old tested positive for crystal meth after going trick-or-treating last Halloween.

Braylen Carwell began shaking and had to be rushed to hospital after playing with candy and plastic vampire teeth he'd collected.

In the UK, a mum found suspected ecstasy pills in a pile of candy her daughter had collected during Halloween.
