Mum shares harrowing pics of son, 16, given 1% chance of survival after taking £2 ecstasy pill laced with rat poison

A MUM has shared harrowing photos of her teenage son after he took a £2 ecstasy pill laced with rat poison.

Odhran "Odi" Coburn was given a one per cent chance of survival after he suffered organ failure at a gig in Belfast.

The teen's temperature rocketed to 45 degrees - eight degrees higher than normal - and was rushed to hospital.

His devastated parents were stuck in London celebrating a friend's wedding and told that every hour was likely to be his last.

They arrived to find him fighting for life in intensive care on June 25.

Odi's mum Grainne said: “He was hooked up to so many machines which were the only things keeping him alive.

"He had nothing. No bowels, no kidneys, no liver, no lungs, no heart and no brain. There was no activity.

"It was our worst nightmare.”

For more than a month Odi was given just a one per cent chance of survival.

But amazingly he pulled through and woke up after 33 days in a coma.

He had nothing. No bowels, no kidneys, no liver, no lungs, no heart and no brain.

Odi's now back at school part time and relieved Grainne has released the harrowing hospital photos as a warning to parents about the dangers of MDMA.

She said: “I’m extremely grateful of my miracle when I know other parents had to bury their children last summer because of MDMA.

“If there’s anything I want from this is to create more awareness of how available these drugs are and the damage they can do.

"If, by sharing these pictures, it will stop even one other child from taking MDMA or any other drug, it will be worth it."

Toxicology reports revealed the MDMA tablet was 78 per cent rat poison.

She said: “Our son didn’t stand a hope in hell of making it.”
