‘KILLER’ MOM
A YOUNG mom allegedly tried to take her own life after she stabbed one of her children to death and hurled the other out of an 11th story window.

The 20-year-old mom ran a bath at her 70-year-old grandfather's apartment on Thursday while her sons, seven-month-old Ameer and two-year-old Johntavious, were in the living room, according to prosecutors.
As the water was running, he went to use the bathroom.
That's when Newell allegedly walked up behind him, placed the elderly man in a chokehold, and cracked him in the head with a towel bar.
She then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and shanked him more than 10 times, leaving "blood spatter all over the toilet, sink and vanity," prosecutors said.
Newell left her unconscious grandfather, then approached little Ameer and stabbed him in the head nine times before taking him to the bathroom and plunging him "face-down into the scalding hot water in the bathtub," a court heard.
The alleged killer mom then cut a hole in the screen of a living room window and hurled little Johntavious out of it before prosecutors said she jumped herself.

Baby Ameer succumbed to his multiple injuries and was found face-down in the bathtub, the news station reported.
A building security guard heard Newell crash to the concrete at about 2am and dialed 911, while tenants below her grandfather's apartment said water from the overflowing tub dripped from their ceiling, the Sun-Times reported.
When cops arrived, they found the elderly man in the doorway of his bathroom "moaning in a pool of blood," prosecutors said.
Officers unsuccessfully attempted CPR on little Ameer, who prosecutors said "never moved and was not making a sound."
The boys were tragically pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital.
Newell and her grandfather were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, and the man was expected to survive.

Two days before the tragic killing, Aleah allegedly told her mother Zera Newell she "wanted to get her life together" and asked her to pick up her sons.
But when her mom went to collect the kids on Wednesday, they were nowhere to be found because Newell stayed at a homeless shelter with the boys.
The Salvation army confirmed to CBS local that the trio stayed at the Shield of Hope shelter on Monday and Tuesday and left Wednesday morning.
The troubled young mum previously attempted suicide over the summer and prosecutors said she was taking medication for an unspecified mood disorder.
Zera told the Sun-Times Friday her daughter asked shelter staff to take her children away from her.

"My daughter, I don't know what was going on, but I know deep inside she loved her kids," she told the newspaper.
"And my grandsons, I'm not gonna never forget them. I wanna always remember the good times I had with them for two years and seven months."
A judge denied bail for Newell, who was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder on Saturday.
She's still in the hospital recovering from a broken wrist and ankle she suffered in the fall and didn't appear in court, the Sun-Times reported.
If Newell survives, investigators told CBS she'll be arrested.
