Mr Corbyn, 71, had stopped to talk to Joe Neary while going for a walk on his birthday on May 26 when someone took a picture of the pair.
Mr Neary wrote in the caption of the photo: "This is me today at Romney Marsh Lock. This fella with me said that it's his birthday today and so he had a photo with me to remember the occasion!
"Lovely man who is so engaging and so were his whole family!"
People are now allowed to travel to spend time outdoors - but still have to keep a two-metre distance between them and people from other households.
Many people on social media were quick to point out the former Labour leader was far too close to Mr Neary - particularly seeing as he is over 70 and in the group of people more vulnerable to coronavirus.
One person wrote: "Social distancing? I think not..."
Another wrote: "Complete social distancing fail.
"You may say the guidelines aren't clear enough but 'keep 2 metres apart' has always been clear."
Other people were furious they had been diligently following the rules while Mr Corbyn had not.
One person wrote: "He's over 70 so should be self isolating, can't see any social distancing either. My husband and I have been self isolating for months I've not seen my family neither has he.
"Makes you wonder why we all bother when I see this."

Mr Neary did not specify whether the photo was taken at Romney Lock near Windsor or a lock near to Romney Marsh in Kent.
The guidance from the Government on how to stop the spread of COVID-19 states: "At all times, you should continue to observe social distancing guidelines when you are outside your home, including ensuring you are two metres away from anyone outside your household."
