Race hate probe after bottles of booze ‘thrown at mosque as Muslims prayed inside’
Cops have launched a probe following the vile attack in High Wycombe, which saw worshippers attacked as they prayed
POLICE have launched a race hate probe after bottles of booze were reportedly thrown at a mosque as Muslim worshippers prayed inside.
Thames Valley Police described the "racist hate attack" as a "serious threat to a cohesive and diverse society".
Mohammed Khaliel, director of community relations organisation Islamix, was at the Mosque when the attack happened.
He said: "When worshippers looked at the back, a male youth was seen rushing into a car and driving off at speed.
"Shattered glass and alcohol was spread on the ground. We were shocked to hear the glass smashing and a loud bang noise, followed by the speeding off by the car.
"The good news is that we have a comprehensive CCTV system at the mosque and I hope it's just a matter of time before the offenders are caught."
Khaliel described a "reluctance from some members of the public to approach the police" over the racist attack.
Thames Valley Police are appealing for anyone with information on the attack to contact them on 101.
It is the latest in a string of race hate attacks on mosques across the country.
An anti-mosque demonstration outside a London place of worship ended in violence two weeks ago.
Two pigs' heads were also placed outside a Muslim school in Blackburn amid protests over plans to build a mosque on the site.
Alcohol and pork are both forbidden by Islam.
