A PERVERT who shared a questionable selfie on social media after admitting to child sex offences has been put away for four years.

The 24-year-old had engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl he added on Facebook last year.

The victim and her family saw the bold snap online and said their stressful experience in court was made even worse because of it.

Mavin appeared far less defiant when he appeared at Newcastle Crown Court and was told he would be put away.

He was also made to sign the sex offenders register, and will have to abide by a sexual harm prevention order for the rest of his life.

Speaking at court, Judge Stephen Earl told the pervert: "This was an appalling act of grooming by a 24-year-old of a very young 13-year-old."

The judge was made aware of the shocking selfie during the proceedings.

Handing a mobile phone showing the image to the judge, prosecutor Jonathan Devlin said: "There is a photo of the defendant, taken after his appearance at court.

"It has the caption 'does this face look bothered' followed by an image of a tearful face, followed by the words 'no, couldn't give a ****', followed with a smiley face.

"I have spoken to the defence about that and it is accepted the defendant did post the photograph of himself but the defendant insists the caption must have been added by someone else.

"I raise it for this reason, it has been seen by the victim and her family, who have been caused additional stress by it."

Mr Devlin told the court the sex offender had encouraged the teen, who was just 12 years of age when they started messaging each other, to send him a topless picture of herself.

When they met up, the girl performed an oral sex act on him after he requested it.

Mavin entered a guilty plea to causing or inciting a child to engage in serial activity and sexual activity with a child.
