Men and women alike stripped down to thongs to flex their way into the history books in the competition at the place Terminator star and ex State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger used to train.

Venice Beach claimed the crown of top body-sculpting beach when nearby Muscle Beach in Santa Monica was shut down due to overcrowding.

Dave Draper, Larry Scott, Danny Trejo, Crips co-founder Stanley Tookie Williams also used to visit the spot.

Several categories were up for grabs yesterday including Bikini, Women's Physique, Men's Masters and Vintage Swimsuit.

For female competitors judges said they were looking for "good balance and shape" as well as "overall physical appearance including complexion, skin, tone, poise and overall presentation."

Competitors should display "a toned, athlete physique showcasing femininity, muscle tone, beauty or flow of physique".

The lads were told they would need to display "proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition".

Competitors were reminded that it was not a bodybuilding competition and therefore "extreme muscularity would be marked down".
