MISSING BRIT

Body of backpacker, 22, is found in Vietnam

Experienced climber Aiden Webb disappeared five days ago

A YOUNG British backpacker has been found dead almost a week after he fell trying to climb Vietnam’s highest mountain.

Aiden Webb, 22, from Norwich, had sent a chilling last text message to his family and girlfriend saying he had torn open his arm, injured his knee and lost his flashlight in a waterfall.

He had been climbing the 10,000ft mountain alone without any safety equipment.

The 22-year-old's body was found by rangers in Sin Chai village at about 13:00 local time.

Drones had been used in the search for the missing Cambridge student.

Aiden's family  set upa Facebook page called 'Help us find Aiden in Vietnam' calling for people to join in the search.

A post two days ago said: "I know him very well, he is tough and has incredible endurance.

"Most of all, he is a friend, one with an incredible heart.

"Time after time he is there for other people.

"Please, anyone who has known him, continue to share his posts. We are running out of time. The Vietnamese jungle can be harsh. I want to see him home."

The 22-year-old Cambridge student had been backpacking and climbing around Vietnam with girlfriend Bluebell Baughan before the tragedy.

On the day he fell, Bluebell stayed behind in a local town while Aiden decided to climb.

He kept in contact with 24-year-old Bluebell throughout his climb using his mobile phone.

Despite being scared after he fell and injured his arm and leg, the experienced climber told her he was "determined" to get to the top of the 10,000 feet height mountain.

He instructed her not to get him any help.

Bluebell says it has been a "nightmare" she was desperate to wake up from.

The last known movements of Aiden Webb

The British backpacker's body has been found after a five-day hunt

Aiden Webb, from Norwich, was a 22-year-old former student of Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
He was halfway through a four-month long tripwith his girlfriend Bluebell Baughan, 24, when he went missing.
He was attempting to climb the Fansipan Mountain in northwest Vietnam.
The young and experienced climber was "determined" to get to the top of the 10,000 feet height mountain and told Bluebell not to get him any help.
The last message she received from her boyfriend of two years was at 6.18am local time on Saturday.
He jokingly messaged that he owed Bluebell a new torch as he had just dropped hers down a waterfall.
Bluebell said Aiden told her "do not get help" and she stayed up all of Friday evening talking to him throughout his climb after he had injured himself.
After becoming cold from being out on the mountain the climber let Bluebell know his troubles and sent her his location.
She immediately contacted police, but that was the last time she spoke to her boyfriend of two years.
His body was found near to where his girlfriend reported him missing.

His dad Trevor Webb and uncle Michael Webb flew out to join the search around Fansipan, which is the country’s highest mountain.

Their  page has raised £6,000 to pay for a helicopter and drone to help find Aiden.

The last post described how rescue efforts had been "intensified" with five drones with four-hour batteries were being allowed to fly in the area.

Dogs had been called in with a special mountain search team and elite mountaineers to zone in on where Aiden had sent his last text message before his phone died.

The post added: "All I'm going to do today is sit and wait till I hear from my brothers.

"Much love to you Aiden and I hope and pray we find you safe [injured but safe] so we can bring you home and ground you for life.

"You are truly loved by many Aiden Webb.

"Everything is crossed so tightly here for you gorgeous."

Aiden and Bluebell met at Anglia Ruskin University and they travelled to South East Asia at the beginning of March.

A spokesman for the university said Aiden graduated from Anglia Ruskin in 2014 and was a "very popular and hard-working student, known for his wonderful sense of humour".
