DONALD Trump has fired back at "liberal hypocrite" Democrat darling Gretchen Whitmer after she called him "a threat to America."

said on Thursday: "Michigan has already gained and regained more than half of the jobs that it lost – and if your state was ever allowed to safely reopen by your governor, who doesn't have a clue, just like , you would have gained far more than that.

"Open up your state, , open up your state!"

The president added that Michigan would benefit if it "had a governor who knew what the hell she was doing" and described Whitmer as a "liberal hypocrite who lives by a different set of rules."

Whitmer slammed Trump on Thursday, telling reporters: "I think this failure to act has cost so many lives, sent our economy into a tailspin, and I'll say it's just devastating to hear that when we've been working so hard to save lives."

She added that she believes the president's administration has been "reckless" and "not particularly well-informed."

"They knew; they didn't tell us," she said. "I think that the biggest enemy of the state right now is the misinformation that's coming out of the head of state."

"I think the biggest threat to the American people is the American president right now."

In recently unearthed tapes, Trump told Woodward that coronavirus was "deadly stuff during an interview on February 7.
