Bus driver arrested ‘after telling gay couple ‘people like you shouldn’t be on this f*****g bus’

The male couple said they sat in shock during the short journey before challenging the driver

A BUS driver has been arrested over allegations that he swore at a male couple and banned them from his vehicle because they were gay.

Couple David and Ian, who don't want their surnames revealed, allege the driver told them "People like you shouldn't be on this f***ing bus."

"Hurry up and sit the f*** down", the driver added, according to the couple.

A few days later, they claim, he refused to let them on his bus.

The 20-year-old partners said they sat on the bus in shock through the short journey before plucking up the courage to challenge the driver.

After confronting the homophobe, the pair were then told they were banned from all services run by his employers, McGill's Busses.

The incident took place on a bus operated by McGill's in Glasgow.

David said: “I can’t believe someone can be so abusive, and that two people have to be subjected to such vile comments when doing as something as simple as stepping on to a bus.”

A statement by the bus company said: "We do not accept discrimination of any sort from any employees.

"An investigation into this alleged incident is underway."

Scottish police said they are investigating an alleged homophobic incident which is is believed to be linked to the bus drama.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed a 46-year-old man had been arrested under legislation that covers homophobic abuse.

She said: "We can confirm that on June 17 a 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged offence contrary to section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 which is alleged to have occurred in Peat Road in Pollock on June 10.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."

A driver who works for the bus company, who has not been named, has been arrested.
