Two trains collide head on in crash leaving one dead and three injured

The moment the carriages hit each other was caught on camera as smoke and flames leapt into the air

ONE person was injured and three people left missing after two railway trains had a head on collision.

The smash happened on Tuesday, near the town of Panhandle in Texas, US and as the locomotives smashed into each other flames and smokes billowed into the air.

The trains were derailed and the carriages left in a crumpled mess beside the track, which was around 25 miles east of Amarillo.

Parts of the town were evacuated as firefighters struggled to bring the blaze under control.

Both trains which were in the smash had two crew members according to BNSF Railway spokesman Joe Faust State, railroad and federal authorities have still not provided what caused it – the speed limit in the area is 70 mph.

While one person was rushed to hospital – it was said he had leapt from the train just before the accident.

An investigation has been opened into the crash by The National Transportation Safety Board.

Witness Billy Brown, who got footage of the smash as it happened told : “I don't know how anyone survived.

“It's terrible. I've seen a number of train wrecks but I've never seen one like this.”
