FORMER Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland has been married to his wife Lynn since 1987.

Judge Garland was confirmed by the Senate on March 10, 2021 to be the next attorney general of the United States.

Who is Merrick Garland’s wife, Lynn?

Lynn Rosenman Garland is the wife of US Court of Appeals Circuit Judge Merrick Garland. 

She is the granddaughter of Samuel Irving Rosenman, who served as a justice on the New York Supreme Court.

Rosenman also worked as special counsel to Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman.

Lynn went on to attend Harvard University and then to Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management to earn a Master of Science in operations management.

In 1987, she worked in Falls Church, Virginia, as a staff assistant to the vice president of operations for defense electronics contractor E-Systems Inc.'s Melpar division.

It is unclear what she does now career-wise.

Judge Garland and Lynn have two daughters, Rebecca and Jessica Garland. 

Jessica was previously the co-president of the Yale Undergraduate Prison Project, a student-run social justice project that aims to reduce recidivism and promote dialogue around issues connected to mass incarceration, according to .

She now works as a regional operations director for DaVita Kidney Care, according to her profile.

Rebecca graduated from Yale University with a degree in Psychology and went on to Harvard Business School to obtain a Master of Business Administration.

When was Merrick Garland sworn in as attorney general?

President announced Garland's appointment as Attorney General on January 7, 2021, along with other senior leaders of the department.

On March 10, 2021, the Senate confirmed Garland to be Biden's attorney general.

The final vote was, 70-30, 20 Republicans joined 50 Senate Democrats to confirm Garland.

He was sworn in as attorney general on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Was Merrick Garland nominated to be a Supreme Court justice?

Following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016, then-President Barack Obama nominated Judge Garland to fill the vacancy.

The 69-year-old judge had been praised by many political figures including the late Senator Orrin Hatch.

Senator Mitch McConnell, R.Ky., who was the Senate majority leader at the time, announced that the next president should fill the vacant seat. The next presidential election was in November 2016.

"The American people should have a say in the court's direction," McConnell said at the time, according to .

"It is a president's constitutional right to nominate a Supreme Court justice, and it is the Senate's constitutional right to act as a check on the president and withhold its consent," he said.
