Gardener assaulted neighbours by spraying them with his hose while drinking

A GARDENER assaulted his neighbours by spraying them with his hose, a court heard.
Steven Newman, 52, was dousing climbing plants and insisted the water flew over a hedge and soaked the pair by accident.
But they complained to the police and he was arrested.
There had earlier been a row as the neighbours reckoned the ex-serviceman was shouting and swearing with a pal.
His hose then drenched them as they had a barbecue in North Shields, near Newcastle.

Prosecutor Iain Martin said: “It was an intentional act and not a reckless one.”
Newman got a 12-month conditional discharge and was told to pay £85 costs.
