Mr Cameron said the nation must “pull together” to see off the “grave” threat facing our shores.

While Mrs May said that by lending a hand on the frontline, Brits are helping “their communities” as they are rocked by the worst health crisis in a century.

Mr Cameron, who is volunteering locally with the NHS, told The Sun: “The UK has a proud history of pulling together in times of need and volunteering to help others.

“We saw it recently in happier times during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with our amazing Games Makers.

“We now need to invoke that spirit again, during these far more grave and challenging times."

Hailing the outpouring of community spirit the nation has seen, he added: “I’m delighted to support The Sun’s Jabs Army campaign.

"I know that so many want to assist the huge national effort to help with the vaccine rollout

“As a country we need to pull together to get this done as quickly and efficiently as possible, so I urge everyone to lend a hand and join the Jabs Army.”

Mr May also threw her support behind Brits helping out to get the vaccine out.

She said: “This is a fantastic campaign by The Sun.

“We have already seen so many people sign up as volunteers and this is another great way for people to keep helping others in their communities across the country.”
