MARRY ME TO STAY IN THE EU

Scots woman invites proposals from Englishmen as record numbers plan move north of the border following Brexit vote

Glasgow born Rachel Loughran is offering a solution to concerned Remain voters

A SCOTTISH woman is offering English singletons the chance to stay in the EU -  by marrying her to obtain a Scottish passport.

Rachel Loughran's cheeky offer to disappointed Remain voters comes as record numbers of people enquire about moving north of the border.

She has posted a video to YouTube offering an olive branch to "fellow reluctant Brexiting brethren", and is now awaiting video proposals in return.

It is a tongue-in-cheek video, but one which carries a serious message commenting on last week's vote to leave the EU.

In a longer version of the video she says: "Scotland. Land of the free, country of the brave, birthplace of the deep-fried Mars bar and home to 1,661,191 people who want to part of the EU, including me."

Rachel, an actress and comedian currently living in North London but born and bred in Glasgow, told The Sun: "It is a joke, but with a serious message."

The video highlights the discord felt between those who voted to remain and those who chose to leave the EU, as she says: "In a gesture of unification between myself and my fellow reluctant Brexit-ing brethren from outside the Scottish borders, I’m offering the chance of a lifetime.

"The potential opportunity of obtaining a Scottish passport by making me your wife."

The 27-year-old tucks into a deep-fried haggis as she urges eligible men or women - she's "not that fussed" - to join her in Scotland and stay a part of the EU.

This offer comes as the 'Moving to Scotland' site recorded 10,331 visits in three days after the shock EU referendum result, as thousands of people look into moving.

This is up 800 per cent on average views.

The majority of Scotland voted to remain in the EU, and pro-EU Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon is determined to find a way to make their vote a reality.

If, as many Scots are hoping, the country gains independence and stays a part of the EU, thousands of English people plan to move north of the border.

The Scottish Government has seen a surge in traffic to the website, with the majority of people coming from other parts of the UK looking to relocate.

Although her offer is unlikely to end in an actual marriage, Rachel said she might consider a night out if any of the people e-proposing catch her eye.

She said: "It is meant as a sort of mocking-with-a-serious-message, however if there was an eligible bachelor that came out from it I would consider a date.

"I am a yes person to remain, but I am also a yes person for a decent night out."

In the video she says: "I appeal to all eligible and eager bachelors of which I’m sure there are many to send me a video proposal stating in no uncertain terms why I should make you my Scottish husband or wife, not that fussed.

"Go on, the bagpipes are calling you, your Tunnocks teacakes awaits, take a bite of my deep fried haggis and let me make you Scottish."
