As Britain faces economic instability, it is vital the nation realises Theresa May is the best bet for No 10 — and fast

WE believe Theresa May is the best bet for Prime Minister.
But her Cabinet supporters must learn from the referendum that relentless negative campaigning won’t work.
It will not be enough for one May ally after another to rubbish her rival Andrea Leadsom’s inexperience.
Brexit voters tuned out the endless apocalyptic warnings of Project Fear.
Tory members voting to install our new PM won’t buy into Project Fear 2 either.
Yes, Ms May’s competence and experience will be big considerations.
As will whether she is more electable by the wider public in 2020 than Mrs Leadsom.
But it is crucial Ms May shows a desire to see Brexit through — and a sunny optimism about our golden new opportunity to trade with the big wide world outside the declining Brussels tariff club.
Yes, she backed Remain.
But she must quickly now set out a firm plan for leaving the EU.

How do apparently racist officers who kill so casually ever get on the force in the States?
And why, eight years after it elected its first black President, does America’s racial divide still show no signs of narrowing?
The spike in racist incidents here since the referendum is depressing.
But even those vile attacks are minor compared with the atrocities in parts of America — a country with 300 million guns, too much crime and too many trigger-happy cops.
