THE dramatic moment a tank commander is pulled from his vehicle and beaten up by angry protesters has been caught on film.
The footage shows the commander being pulled from a turret before angry Turks scramble to grab him.
The mob then start beating the man with their bare hands after climbing up the side of the tank.
The incident is believed to have happened in Taksim Square in central Istanbul.
It comes as President Erdogan called for Turkish citizens to take to the streets to show their response to the coup.
He told a CNN reporter via phone that people must gather in public places to show their response.
"I urge the Turkish people to convene at public squares and airports. I never believed in a power higher than the power of the people."
"I certainly believe that coup plotters will not succeed".
He also tweeted to encourage Turkish citizens to take action, despite a reported social media outage.
