TURKEY is very important strategically because it is the most consistent contributor to Nato after the United States.
It links east and west and the US and UK use its airbases for the ISIS fight in Syria. If the instability goes on we will not be able to do that.
The British Government needs to consider what it is going to do. It needs Turkey strategically.
But relations will get strained as the human rights situation deteriorates as President Erdogan punishes those who tried to kick him out.

Yet the constitution says the army can overthrow a leader if people are unhappy with him.
The situation should calm down within a week but I think President Erdogan will continue to take people out.
The coup failure makes his position stronger because citizens were willing to fight for him.
Anyone travelling to Turkey should stay out of Ankara and Istanbul but the resort of Marmaris should be stable.
