WORRIED WITHOUT WEB

BT Broadband is down AGAIN: Furious Brits left without internet connection for second day

Massive internet provider issues ANOTHER apology after suffering outage

People across Britain are unable to access the internet today after BT Broadband was hit with a major technical issue for the second day in a row.

The UK's biggest internet provider said the latest problem was affecting less than 5% of customers' internet access and engineers were working on the affected site.
The company said: "We're sorry that some BT and Plusnet customers are having problems connecting to some internet services this morning. This is due to Telehouse North, one of our internet connection partners in the Docklands, suffering a substantial power failure. This is affecting BT and other providers.
"We are redirecting traffic to reduce the impact on customers and the issue is now affecting less than 5% of customers' internet usage. Engineers are on site and we hope will be able to fix the problem shortly."

The problems started at about 9.30am today and affected vast swathes of the county.

On its technical support Twitter account, BT wrote: "Sorry if you're unable to access some websites this morning on BT Broadband, we're investigating the cause and will update you all soon."

The website Down Detector said it detected 2,500 complaints every minute as furious Brits struggled to get online.

On its service status page, BT said the outage was ongoing and wrote: "A small number of our customers... may experience a loss of telephone and/or broadband services. We hope to have service restored as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing."

Alex Neill, Which? Director of Policy and Campaigns, said customers should be compensated for the loss of broadband.

“Many people now view broadband as an essential service so it's only right that consumers are automatically compensated when their service is lost, as it has been for many BT customers today," he said.

"The Government must push forward with the Digital Economy Bill to give broadband customers this right as soon as possible."

BT customers were also prevented from accessing the internet yesterday too, prompting the following apology from BT: "We’re sorry that some BT and Plusnet customers experienced problems accessing some internet services this morning.

"Around 10 per cent of customers’ internet usage was affected following power issues at one of our internet connection partners’ sites in London. The issue has now been fixed and services have been restored.”
