Woman dies after crashing into multiple vehicles before plunging into the river
Police, Coastguard, Ambulance and Fire Service all involved in massive operation

A MUM plunged to her death after bouncing off several cars before careering into a river.
Emergency services raced to the horror scene in the Ferry Village, near Braehead, Renfrewshire, yesterday afternoon.
Shocked locals said the woman sped her 4x4 erratically and struck stationary cars, parked beside a children’s playpark, before hurtling through a barrier into the River Clyde.
One woman who witnessed the aftermath of the horror said: “I ran down when I heard someone had hit some of the cars and that’s when I was told a 4x4 was in the river.
“She must have been going at a pretty fast speed because it’s all speed bumps here and would take a lot of speed to get through the metal barrier.”
Stunned onlookers watched as a coastguard rescue team including a helicopter attended the incident around 1.20pm.
By 4pm police had confirmed the body of a woman had been pulled from the water.
She was the only person in the vehicle.
Another local, Kayleigh Officer, said: “I saw the aftermath of it, it’s crazy.
“Crowds of people were here from the park and the flats as soon as it happened.
“But there were no screams or anything, everything seemed pretty controlled and the police didn’t start taping off the area until about an hour later.
“We’ve heard the woman was going down the street about 40 miles an hour then bashed into cars.
“I was also told someone was hit by the car but I don’t know if that’s true.
“It’s frightening because there’s kids always about this area so more people could have been killed.”

Matthew Newlands, 21, added: “There’s no way anyone would make it out that water alive, they really need to do something about the barriers there because they seem to be easy to drive through.”
Two motor rescue vehicles arrived at the scene last night around 5.30pm while attempting to retrieve the car.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of how the vehicle came to enter the River Clyde, with crash scene examiners conducting an investigation at the location.
“A full search of the water surface has been conducted by divers from Police Scotland’s Marine Unit and a woman has now been recovered from the vehicle.
“She was the only person in the car. A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death.”
