Stunned eyewitnesses could be heard yelling "they're only kids" at the police as some officers began the chase members of the crowd.

Twitter users reported hearing a helicopter overhead and Metropolitan police confirmed extra officers had been deployed.

The Met launched an appeal yesterday to locate some of the people it believed had been involved in the violence on Tuesday night.
