Flight delayed for over three hours after passenger tore off part of the CEILING thinking it was overhead luggage bin

Passenger was trying to stow their bags away but ended up pulling off the new plane's ceiling

AN UNLUCKY passenger has accidentally torn off a section of ceiling from a brand new Cathay Pacific aircraft while trying to stow away their bags.

The flight, from Hong Kong to Bangkok, was delayed for more than three hours as engineers tried to reattach the ceiling on the new plane.

The 280 passengers on the Airbus A350 were forced to wait while engineers tried their best to fix the plane's ceiling before the plane could take off, reported.

It is understood the passenger, who was sitting towards the back of the plane, was trying to put their bag away in the overhead luggage compartment but instead accidentally ripped off a piece of ceiling space.

Photos of the ceiling show the broken panel exposing the redundant space above the seating area with significant damage done to the airplane's interior.

The flight CX705 managed to take off after the lengthy delay - with the passenger who had mistakenly caused all the fuss still allowed the fly.

A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific said in a statement: "Cathay Pacific flight CX705 from Hong Kong to Bangkok on 20 July, scheduled to depart at 8.15am, was delayed as a fixed panel of the overhead compartment was found damaged before take-off and repair was required.

"The flight subsequently took off at 11.24 am on the same day after completion of inspection and repairs. There were 280 passengers on board.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the passengers."

The new plane was one of the new fleet launched by Cathay Pacific which includes Wi-fi and high-definition television.
