In a 2023 interview with the , Baier opened up about his son's condition.
Baier said: "It turned out his heart was essentially pumping the wrong way. He had five significant heart defects, and if he didn't get surgery in the first few days, he would die.
"So we went from the highest highs to the lowest lows in a really short time."
He went on to reveal that despite Paul's numerous surgeries, he seems to be nearing the end of this health battle.
"He's now had four open heart surgeries, 10 angioplasties, and a stomach surgery. We spent a lot of time in the hospital. And he's doing great. He's now 6'3'. I look up to him, literally," he continued.
"Hopefully that's the end of heart surgeries and he's very healthy."
That same year, Baier told that he celebrated two years since his son had to undergo open heart surgery.
"He’ll have more procedures that are much less serious, but still serious."
On April 29, 2024, Baier revealed on X that his son was cleared to return home after his fifth open heart surgery.

Baier opened up to about what led to the emergency fifth surgery.
He revealed that his son had caught a cold in Florida, and the doctors chose to scan his chest out of an abundance of caution.

"The MRI comes back, and they sit me down and say, 'This is a really big deal. This is an aneurysm the size of a golf ball that has formed off of his heart,'" Baier said.
"And they didn't know whether it might burst, but if it did, it might have been fatal in a matter of minutes."
