Shopper finds his Aldi egg-fried rice was covered in green and blue MOULD

Jay Byrne has slammed Aldi for the 'shocking and disgusting mess'

SHOPPER Jay Byrne found his Aldi egg-fried rice stank - and was covered in green and blue mould.

Mean bosses at the supermarket chain offered a 45p refund, but only if he could provide a receipt.

Jay got a nasty shock when he ripped open the packet of Bilash Egg Fried Microwavable Rice, bought from Aldi in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

Just as he was ready to drop it into his curry he smelt a ‘rancid’ smell and peered into the packet.

To his horror he found the foul smelling rice covered in blue and green mould.

It is absolutely shocking and a disgusting mess.

Jay, from Altrincham, called Aldi’s customer service department and was told that he would be refunded the price of the rice if he presented a receipt, which he no longer had.

The sell-by date on the rice was September 2017.

“Needless to say Aldi's microwavable rice is off menu for good,” he said.

“I still have this rice well wrapped up, you cannot really appreciate its rancid aroma in all its intensity until you have a lung full of it.

“It is absolutely shocking and a disgusting mess.”

What Jay specifically wanted to know though was details of the supplier.

“I specifically asked Aldi their supplier so that I could contact them directly, they refused to divulge this information,” said Jay.

“Now I and everyone else are in the dark as to who this company is. Remember this isn't an isolated incident. Refunding my 45 pence means nothing.

“Who makes this muck?”

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Incidents like this are rare, but can occur as a result of damage to the packaging and the product being exposed to air.

"We have apologised to Mr Burns and confirmed that he can obtain a full refund by returning the product and packaging to any Aldi store.”
