BAFFLED cops had a close encounter with something out of this world, as they appeared to pursue a grounded "UFO" driving slowly down the road.

The spaceship had Irish police scratching their heads as they followed it through the streets of Gorey, Wexford.

It turns out the UFO was actually created for an art project, and is being exhibited at the Common Ground Art Exhibition 2016.

The 10ft remote-controlled vehicle was built by artist Ali Kemal Ali, who is originally from Islington in London.

He said: "I thought how can I attract a bit more interest? So I thought i'll go and ask the guards.

The fibreglass spaceship runs on two electric scooters and has a strobe light, lasers, a smoke machine and a sub woofer.

Ali added: "When you come up beside it, it feels like it's alive".
