Tottenham Hotspur relegate catering firm after health inspectors find BUGS and mice POO

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR have ditched their catering firm ahead of the new season after health inspectors found mice droppings and insects in their kitchens.

Grubby Spurs were given a dressing down for the find by council health chiefs after a probe at White Hart Lane.

A report by inspectors also found staff who cooked grub for fans “weren’t sure when they washed their hands”.

Haringey Council’s food health and hygiene officer blasted: “Mice droppings were noted behind chilled units, under sink shelving units and a behind door in the main kitchen.

“It was apparent that the level of food hygiene awareness amongst Tottenham Hotspur staff was inadequate.”

Another clanger saw hand sanitiser wrongly put in a dispenser labelled as degreaser while old food was found encrusted on dirty kitchen tools.

Kitchen staff put fans’ safety at risk by using the same surfaces to prepare raw and cooked foods – increasing the risk of cross-contamination.

And employee knowledge on food hygiene was so slack that high-risk foods like burgers, hot dogs and desserts were not kept in fridges.

The inspector demanded: “The food must not be displayed again at room temperature.”

The grotty discoveries officially made Spurs the dirtiest team in the Premier League last term with a paltry Food Standards Agency score of 3/5.

The Sun found no other Premier League club fared worse than the north Londoners.

Tottenham blamed their gross kitchen on a third party caterer and said it had dumped the firm ahead of the new season on Saturday.

A club spokesman said: “This report is from six months ago. At the time, we intervened to work with the local authorities to ensure our contract caterers resolved all issues immediately.

“We have since invited the local authorities back to the stadium to re-inspect and they were satisfied with the changes implemented. We continue to have a dialogue with them to ensure there is no repeat.”
