Plymouth shooting news – Jake Davison massacre may be deemed TERROR attack after his woman-hating incel YouTube rants

THE gun massacre in Plymouth last week could be declared a TERROR ATTACK over the gunman's warped, women-hating views, it is claimed.

Jake Davison, 22, regularly posted misogyny-filled videos on his YouTube page and had ties to the warped online world of incels - a global collective of twisted men who identify as 'involuntary celebrates'.

These individuals routinely express violent hatred of women for not wanting to have sex with them and have regularly praise mass murders and other violent incidents - usually against women - involving incels.

Now, , officers from the South West Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit will look at Davison's  phone, computer and online postings to asses what extent being an 'incel' played in the massacre.

If being an incel is deemed to be a motive for the massacre, which left five innocent people dead, including a three-year-old girl - then the incident will fall into counter-terror policing and be formally declared a terror attack.

The figure, believed to be Jake Davison, calmly crosses the road as a car passes and holds the 3ft long shotgun by his side.

The CCTV, from ITV News, appears to show the coldblooded killer after he had already killed four of his victims.

He then walks in the direction of a hair salon, which is where he shot his fifth victim Kate Shepherd, 66, before turning the gun on himself.

  • KEYHAM RESIDENT THOUGHT GUNSHOTS WERE ‘FIREWORKS’

A Keyham resident who lives near the scene of the shooting said on Saturday she initially thought the gunshots were fireworks.

Melanie Fletcher, 52, who works in a local supermarket, told the PA news agency: “My back garden backs onto the field, so I saw the four helicopters land, and then a fifth one hovering.

“We heard the shots but me and my husband are from London and it’s so quiet here that first of all we thought it was a car backfiring. After the third, fourth shot, my husband thought maybe it was fireworks, you know. But as we were cleaning our car, armed police came by and said go in and shut your door.

“It’s very quiet around here – we’ve only been here 18 months and from what I can gather, it’s a very close community, and everybody knows everybody. So, it was quite shocking.”

On people laying flowers in the local park, she added: “It just touches your heart, you know, sort of faith in humanity. But it’s still shocking.”

  • BORIS JOHNSON DEMANDS ‘PROPER INVESTIGATION’ INTO HOW GUNMAN WAS ABLE TO HOLD GUN LICENCE

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also demanded a “proper investigation” into how the Plymouth shooter was able to legally own a shotgun he used to kill five people.

Boris Johnon has said that it should be “properly investigated” as he described the horror shooting as an “absolutely appalling” incident.

In a statement the Prime Minister said: “My thoughts are with the friends and family of those who lost their lives and with all those affected by the tragic incident in Plymouth.

“I thank the emergency services for their response.”

  • PLYMOUTH MP SAYS COMMUNITY ‘WILL GET THROUGH THIS’

Following a vigil for the victims of the Keyham shooting on Friday, Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Luke Pollard tweeted: “Tonight our community came together to remember the victims of the shooting in #keyham.

  • PLYMOUTH LEFT IN STATE OF SHOCK AFTER MASS SHOOTING, COUNCIL CHIEF SAYS

The community in Plymouth is in a state of shock and reluctant to leave their homes following a mass shooting which left five people dead, the city council’s leader has said.

Nick Kelly, leader of Plymouth City Council, said people “wanted a hug and assurances things will get better” after gunman Jake Davison killed five people before turning the weapon on himself.

It came after hundreds of people attended a candle-lit vigil close to where the incident took place on Friday night in an outpouring of grief for the victims.

Davison, 22, shot dead his mother on Thursday in the Keyham area of the city before going on to kill four more people, including a three-year-old girl, and injure two others.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into Davison’s possession of a shotgun and a firearms licence, which were returned to him after being removed at the end of last year.

  • PLYMOUTH IN STATE OF SHOCK

Speaking to BBC Breakfast on Saturday, councillor Kelly said many people had not come forward for support following the traumatic event because they did not want to leave their homes.

He added: “At the moment people are a little bit reluctant to come outside their doors, they are still in a state of shock.

“Certainly the centres had a lot of community help workers but very few residents have actually come up and taken advantage of that.

“The ones that I did speak to really just want to recount what had happened, get things off their chest, and I guess just want a hug and reassurance things will get better.”

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Luke Pollard tweeted images of the vigil and the victims’ names, writing: “Tonight our community came together to remember the victims of the shooting in #keyham.

  • YOUTUBE CONFIRMS IT HAS TAKEN DOWN ACCOUNT BELONGING TO JAKE DAVISON

YouTube has confirmed an account belonging to Plymouth shooting suspect Jake Davison has been terminated from the platform, for violating its offline behaviour policy.

The Google-owned video sharing site said it works quickly to remove videos that breach its policies once flagged.

YouTube rules prohibit content that incites violence, including encouraging others to go to a particular place to commit violence or to perform violence at a particular time, the firm said.

  • PRITI PATEL SAYS SHE WAS ‘FULLY AWARE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON’ DESPITE LACK OF SECURITY MINISTER

The Home Secretary denied that a lack of security minister had made it more difficult for the Government to keep a grasp on developing issues, such as the killings that happened in Plymouth.

James Brokenshire resigned as security minister on July 7 following a resurgence of lung cancer, an illness he was first diagnosed with two years ago.

Priti Patel told broadcasters: “I would say that that is absolutely not the case. I am the Home Secretary and I oversee these security issues, and I have been doing that throughout. That is nothing to do in relation with the comment you have made.

“I’ve been kept fully updated and on all issues, all incidences, including those types of issues and incidences that don’t even reach the public awareness and consciousness. I’m fully sighted and fully aware of everything that goes on.”

Residents placed dozens of floral tributes at the scene, near the police cordon on Wolseley Road, while hundreds of people have taken to social media to pay their respects and share messages of condolences.

Home Secretary Priti Patel paid her respects by today placing a large bouquet of flowers near to the scene.

  • INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE AS KEYHAM RESIDENTS PAY TRIBUTE TO SHOOTING VICTIMS

A large police cordon remains in place at the scene of a mass shooting in Plymouth which left five people dead, as local residents continue to pay their respects with floral tributes.

More than 70 bouquets have been left outside a Lidl supermarket close to where the shootings happened in Keyham on Thursday.

Green heart-shaped balloons bearing the names of the five victims – Maxine Davison, Lee Martyn, Sophie Martyn, Kate Shepherd and Stephen Washington – have been tied to a nearby railing.

More floral tributes have been left by mourners in nearby North Down Crescent Park, where hundreds attended a candle-lit vigil in honour of the victims on Friday evening.

One woman, who gave her name only as Terri, brought her two grandchildren as she paid her respects at the park on Saturday. She told reporters she had known Ms Davison “for years” and that she was “lovely”, adding: “I didn’t even realise it was her until yesterday when I saw her photo.”

  • POLICE HAVE QUESTIONS TO ANSWER OVER PLYMOUTH MASS SHOOTINGS, LABOUR SAYS

Labour says police have questions to answer over how a gunman obtained a firearms licence and went on a rampage as more tributes poured in for the victims of the killing spree.

Sir Keir Starmer also said there may need to be a review of gun laws in the wake of Jake Davison shooting dead five people in Plymouth before turning the weapon on himself.

The Labour leader welcomed the launch of the investigation into how Davison had his gun licence returned after it was previously removed, but said the case raised wider issues.

“I think there are wider questions.

“How on earth did he get a gun licence in the first place?

“What back-up checks were done?” he added.

  • ‘STUFF OF NIGHTMARES’

Tributes last night flooded in for Toshiba worker Lee who, along with wife Becky, had adopted little Sophie around two years ago.

Lee had posted a picture on Facebook of the youngster, saying: “We finally adopted Sophie after nearly 15 months! Game changer.”

A close pal of nearly 30 years said: “Lee was a brilliant friend and loved by a lot of people.

“He was a genuine, caring guy, an amazing husband and dad.

“Sophie was just a beautiful little girl, cheeky and full of life. What’s happened to them is the stuff of nightmares.”

  • WITNESS RECALLS SEEING HERO DAD AND DAUGHTER BEING SHOT

Witness John Partridge, 70, who lives on Biddick Drive — the cul-de-sac in which the rampage began — told The Sun: “I heard two shots, like loud fireworks, they went ‘bang, bang’.

“I went to my kitchen window and saw a little girl and a man running into the road.

“He shot at them from about 12ft away. The man was trying to protect the child and had an arm over her.  I was frozen to the spot, it was terrifying.”

Mr Partridge said he called police before Davison glared at him through the window.

He added: “I just ducked and he moved on down the street. After he had walked on, my wife wanted to help the girl and the man but I pulled her back out of the door. I was worried she would be shot too.”

  • FORMER PROSECUTOR SAYS PLYMOUTH GUNMAN ‘SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON WATCHLIST’

Plymouth gunman Jake Davison should have been on a police watchlist before he killed five people and himself in a shooting spree, a former top prosecutor said.

Nazir Afzal, who was previously chief crown prosecutor for the North West said Davison, 22, was “exactly the type of person the authorities should be keeping an eye on”.

Davison killed his mother on Thursday in the Keyham area of Plymouth before going on to shoot dead four more people, including a three-year-old girl, and injure two others.

An investigation has since been launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into Davison’s possession of a shotgun and a firearms licence, which were returned to him in July after being removed last December following an allegation of assault against him in September 2020.

When asked on BBC Breakfast on Saturday if Davison should have been on a watchlist, Mr Afzal said: “Yes, absolutely, particularly given that he had a firearms licence and given that we now learn in December it was taken off him temporarily because of allegations he was facing and returned to him. He was exactly the kind of person that you would be keeping an eye on or the authorities should be keeping an eye on.”

  • DAVISON ONLINE ACTIVITY

Davison also has a dark YouTube page where he rambles about his failed love life and follows countless pro-gun accounts.

Just two days ago, he added a clip to his ‘liked’ videos of a M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle being shot.

Davison also likes Incel TV – an online support group for “involuntary celibates” that is linked to male supremacy and misogyny.

The movement has been labelled a “hate” group with many followers accused of believing they are owed sex by women.

It was linked to the killing of ten people in Canada in 2018 after Alek Minassian posted a Facebook message showing his support for Incels before ploughing a van into crowds.

  • FLORAL TRIBUTES LEFT NEAR LOCAL LIDL SUPERMARKET

Around 70 floral tributes have been left outside a Lidl supermarket close to where the shootings happened in Keyham.

Green heart-shaped balloons bearing the names of the five victims – Maxine Davison, Lee Martyn, Sophie Martyn, Kate Shepherd and Stephen Washington – have been tied to a nearby railing.

Mourners have also left teddy bears and candles among the bouquets, some of which have been left by civic leaders.

Lord Mayor of Plymouth councillor Terri Beer wrote: “My deepest sympathy goes out to the families, friends and loved ones of those from our community who have been lost, injured and touched by this tragic event.”

  • PLYMOUTH GUNMAN JAKE DAVISON DREW PICS OF HIMSELF SHOOTING PEOPLE WHEN HE WAS AT SCHOOL

Even before he had finished school, Jake Davison’s life took a dark turn as former classmates yesterday revealed he would do sinister drawings of himself shooting people.

He was sent to Mount Tamar School in Plymouth, Devon, a facility for children with special needs — where his obsession with guns and violence was already in evidence.

One former classmate told The Sun on Sunday: “He could name literally any gun you showed him. It was freaky. He was absolutely fixated with firearms.”

They added: “He used to draw pictures of himself shooting people while in class. He was a quiet guy. His gun obsession was creepy.”

And on Thursday, Davison, by now a 22-year-old woman-hating adult, picked up his pump-action shotgun and killed mum Maxine, 51, before slaughtering three-year-old Sophie Martyn and three others.

The former school friend said: “Obviously, he had some problems and the gun stuff was very weird but you’d never think he’d go on to carry out anything like this.

“I can’t get my head around what he’s done. It’s sickening.”

  • PLYMOUTH GUNMAN JAKE DAVISON PUT ON POLICE WANTED LIST LAST YEAR AFTER PUNCHING BOY, 16

The bodybuilder, 22, punched a terrified boy, 16, at a skate park a mile from where he shot five people on Thursday.

Cops released CCTV footage showing hulking Davison after the cowardly attack last September.

Caroline Reilly, 38, a friend of the boy’s mum, said Davison punched the lad who was with his brother. Davison also spat at, and hit a girl who tried to intervene, and said to her: “I f***ing hate women.”

Caroline said: “They were in the park, skateboarding. He just walked up to them and started punching one, kicking him in the head.

“A girl tried to intervene to say, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ and he spat in her face and said, ‘You can go to hell’."
