Amazing lightning show illuminating city's iconic skyscrapers captured on camera

THESE breathtaking photographs show a lightning storm unleashing its incredible power over the Chicago skyline.
The series of snaps even capture the exact moment a bolt strikes the Willis Tower -- better known as the Sears Tower -- the second tallest building in the US.
Local photographer Barry Butler placed himself perfectly to take in the lightning show.
He said: "I heard a storm was coming and being local I knew the perfect spot to watch it over the city."
The snapper said capturing the storm was one of his greatest thrills.
He said: "There's nothing like seeing lightning hit a skyscraper, it really is phenomenal."

Bolts of lightning can also be seen striking iconic landmarks like The Hancock and the Trump Hotel Chicago.
Barry of Chicago said it was all down to luck that he manage to take such an amazing array of photos.
"I didn't expect the lightning to be so fierce and I'm really lucky to have captured in one photo all three of the big skyscrapers being struck", he said.
"Storms aren't that rare and lightning can sometimes disappoint you but not that night.
"I felt like I was watching sci-fi movie or something!"
