Hungry kidnappers stopped for dinner at McDonald’s with victim tied up in back of their van

Trio jailed for over 20 years after subjecting 21-year-old student to lengthy ordeal after accusing him of stealing from them

HUNGRY kidnappers stopped off a McDonald's to pick up a burger - with their victim tied up in the back of their van.

The three-man kidnap gang built up an appetite after abducting musician James Davies.

Peckish Georgie Rees, 25, David Miller, 26, and Gavin Stone, 39, decided to pull up at drive-thru - after beating up the 21-year-old into silence.

A court heard the trio ordered two meals at the McDonald's restaurant in Swansea, South Wales, for the midnight snack on the move.

But minutes after the gang tucked into their meals, Davies broke free in a struggle - and flagged down a passing police car.

The McKidnap gang have now been jailed for a total of more than 20 years.

Prosecutor Brian Simpson said: "Rees and Miller knew the victim and were invited into his house to watch television.

"But Rees punched Mr Davies in the face, Miller got a bread knife from the kitchen and came back into the sitting room."

The gang accused music student Davies of stealing from them - and used the knife to force him into the back of the van outside.

They then drove around while punching him as he lay in the back in the June abduction.

Mr Simpson said: "At 12.30am they stopped at McDonald's where they ordered two meals. The journey continued where they took him out of the van."

Swansea Crown Court heard Davies struggled free when he spotted the passing police van. His injuries included bruising, swelling and cuts to the face.

The three gang members were traced via the van and later admitted robbery and kidnap.

In his victim impact statement, Davies said: "I have lost my trust in people and friends."

Rees, of Ynysforgan, Swansea, and Miller, of Treboeth, Swansea, were jailed for eight years.

Stone, of Feltham, London, was jailed for four years and eight months.

Judge Michael Burr said: "These offence are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified."
