Gamescom 2016: Zelda picks up The Sun’s Game of the Show award… and we reveal our top five to look out for
Around 350,000 people flocked to Cologne in Germany to check out the latest offerings coming to the market

THE consoles, TVs and VR headsets have been packed away for another year after Gamescom came to a close last week.
Around 350,000 people flocked to Cologne in Germany to check out the latest offerings coming to the market.
Here DAN CUTTS and JAMIE NIGHTINGALE pick their top six highlights from the convention, including their Game of the Show, Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.
Game of the show - Zelda: Breath of the Wild
LOOKING to be the most expansive overhaul of the classic Zelda formula, Breath Of The Wild is set to take the world by storm.
It has been a long time coming but everything we have played points to a monumental amount of content as well as more variety in the way you play than ever before.
The gorgeous open world that has been created has, like many Zelda games before it, its own unique visual design.
Its colourful palette brings a sense of fantasy wonder that is just begging to be explored.
One of the particularly interesting new mechanics is the way gear has changed.
Pulling from the western RPGs, gear will be discovered and used in small increments.
New armour and weapons will be discovered more often which should improve the feeling of progression.
This is, simply put, our favourite game of Gamescom 2016.
For Honor
THIS is just another Ryse remake, the critics said.
They could not have been more wrong.
For Honor is incredibly brutal and beautiful at the same time. The player takes control of a knight, viking
or samurai and, simply put, slice open anyone or anything in their path.
This hack and slash hit will have a single-player campaign. But it is the multiplayer mode where you will have the most fun.
Don’t just go flailing in. You have to be tactical, carefully aiming at weak points on your enemies’ bodies as well as defending yourself from their attacks.
For Honor was close to winning the Game of the Show award and it is definitely one to keep an eye out for.
Sea of Thieves
SAILING the open seas, manning the sails and firing the cannons. Just you and four friends crewing your own pirate ship.
Sea Of Thieves is a simple concept. You team up in an open-world with thousands of other players and loot treasure, have epic sword fights, play music and drink.
It is going to be an epic shared world adventure game. It looks beautiful and there is no lore, no story.
Just us, the players, crafting adventures with anything possible.
There is even a Kraken loose in the seas.
Forza Horizon 3
THE sun glints off my £200,000 Lamborghini in the Australian outback and water sprays up as I power a dune buggy through a golden beach.
I’m playing one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever seen.
Forza Horizon 3 takes what its predecessors did well and moves them on.
The game’s world is twice the size of Forza Horizon 2, has more than 350 cars and a 20-hour campaign.
It even took the developers SIX months to build a single car for the game. A must-buy.
Destiny: Rise of Iron
VERY few games have stayed in the spotlight like Destiny has.
One of the most hyped of this generation, with each content update, this killer FPS from veterans Bungie has improved on its already addictive formula.
This content release features a new cinematic story based on the world of the Iron Lords, set to be some of the most engaging lore dumps for its dedicated players. There is so much to try that you may have to give up relationships with loved ones.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is our best DLC of the show.
Sniper Elite 4
SNIPER Elite has a cult following proud of its tactical, stealthy and sneaky gameplay.
The fourth in the franchise evolves those hallmarks to appeal to a broader range of gamers. But you can still play all day without ever being seen, staying hidden in the shadows and picking off enemies with pinpoint precision.
Set traps and use the wide-open world to your advantage. The AI has improved so much that you will be dead in a second if you don’t.
You again are Karl Fairburne – and it is one helluva ride.
