BRIT SPARKS PLANE PANIC

‘Unruly’ Brit arrested for interfering with the crew forcing British Airways flight from Gatwick to divert to Boston

Witnesses said the 24-year-old Scot was drunk and wandered the plane asking to get off

A SCOTTISH man was arrested after a British Airways flight had to be diverted after he was allegedly seen drunkenly wandering around the plane asking to get off.

The 24-year-old, from Glasgow, was detained by cops after the Boeing 777 flying from Gatwick to Orlando landed at Logan International Airport in Boston, US.

Cabin crew tried to calm the "unruly" passenger and even the captain went to talk to him before deciding to divert, according to reports.

Passenger Mark Christie, 30, from Aberdeen, told MailOnline: "The drunk guy got on the flight and became increasingly more drunk.

"Then he started wandering around and asking if he could get off. I think that was the worry.

"Eventually he needed to be baby-sat by two cabin crew at a time.

"Then the pilot came through to try and calm him down. And he obviously decided it was better to land in Boston."

British garage band Gorgon City were also on the flight, heading for a gig in Florida.

They wrote on Twitter: "Some drunk t*** assaulted staff on @BritishAirways flight and now in Boston instead of Orlando. Be there soon tho!"

Massachusetts State Police were waiting for the flight when it touched down and said the man would be summonsed to appear in court on charges of interfering with the flight crew.

A spokesman said: "Customs and Border Protection took custody of the 24-year-old man from Glasgow, Scotland.

"Massachusetts State Police will be summonsing the man for interfering with a flight crew."

A British Airways spokeswoman said: "Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights and not to suffer any form of abuse.

"Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and the appropriate action will always be taken.

"We'd like to apologise for the delay to the other customers on the flight."
