The woman was snapped holding the arm of Clinton while appearing to check her pulse.

A Tennessee branch of the Republican Party tweeted the image of the pair claiming: "Undercover nurse checking Hillary's pulse?" Looks like that..."

Another pic of the mystery aide shows her allegedly asking Clinton to "squeeze her fingers" - with many users pointing out that this is a "common test for neurological ailments".

Some noted that having a medical professional on standby was not a good sign for presidential candidates.

The mystery woman was identified by Twitter users as Clinton's doctor, Lisa Bardack, although this has not be confirmed

Dr Lisa Bardack confirmed in a statement on Sunday that Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia.

She said: “Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia.

“She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule.

“While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated.

“I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”

Speaking to CNN late on Monday, Clinton said she was feeling "so much better".

She said she her kept her pneumonia diagnosis a secret, only choosing to tell only family and close aides, explaining: "I just didn't think it was going to be that big a deal."

But speculation over the 68-year old's health are mounting with suggestions she has a Parkinson’s disease following her near collapse at a 9/11 memorial service.

A Republican state representative for New Hampshire, US, made the shocking claim about Clinton on his Facebook page in a post which has since been removed.

Daniel Tamburello, who is co-chair of the Veterans for Trump, explained that his father had Parkinson’s and that pneumonia is common among sufferers of the neuro-degenerative disease.

“They may have admitted HRC has pneumonia, but that’s not WHY she has pneumonia. I believe she has pneumonia caused by Parkinson’s disease,” he wrote.

Clinton is not stranger to being plagued by speculation that she is not fit enough to serve as US President.

She was even jokingly challenged to show she could open a jar of pickle to prove she was in good health.

The candidate also had her pulse taken as part of the joke.

Clips of Clinton appearing to cough up green mucus also sent ripples through the presidential race.

Clinton had a coughing fit while speaking at a rally in Cleveland, Ohio, forced to take a moment to sip some water and recover.

Her opposing candidate Trump has used the incidents to claim that Clinton is too weak to serve as the US president, also saying she takes too many naps to properly serve.

He also said he had "no idea" what had happened to Clinton when he was asked about her health following the ceremony.

Clinton emerged from her daughter Chelsea's home two hours later walking unaided and waving to reporters.

The Democratic candidate repeatedly said she "felt great" when asked by journalists but failed to answer questions about what exactly happened.
