POLICE have charged 74 eco-warriors in connection with Insulate Britain protests on the M25 and near the Port of Dover.

The nuisance demonstrations blocked thousands of motorists during rush hour in September and October last year.

Kent Police were called to each obstruction to "manage disruption caused to motorists and made a number of arrests".

Officers then "worked closely" with the Crown Prosecution Service to authorise 104 charges for 74 people linked to the environmental group.

They have been summonsed to attend hearings at Crawley Magistrates' Court from April onwards.

The protesters, who plonked themselves in the middle of the motorway and even ran directly into oncoming traffic, were calling on the UK Government to put in place policy and funding for a national home insulation programme.

Starting with all social housing, they demanded Boris Johnson makes "significant legislative change to start lowering emissions".

Drivers' rage boiled over as mobs of activists blocked school-run mums and lorry drivers on major transport routes.

Some went as far as to glue their hands, feet and even their faces to the tarmac.

The hi-vis clad groups, some defying injunctions meant to stop them from causing disruption, were then hauled away by cops.
