Who was Madeleine Albright and what was her cause of death?

MADELEINE Albright made history in 1997 after she became the first female secretary of state in the United States.

On March 23, 2022, it was announced that she passed away at the age of 84.

Who was Madeleine Albright?

Born May 15, 1937, Albright was known as an American politician and diplomat.

She was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, but came to the United States in 1948.

In 1939, her family fled their home due to World War II but returned after it ended before heading for the US.

She later learned that her family fled because she was Jewish, and three of her grandparents had died in Nazi concentration camps after they took control of the country, reports.

Albright went on to obtain an MA and Ph.D. from Columbia University and headed to Washington D.C., where she worked for Maine’s Senator Edmund S. Muskie and served on the National Security Council under President Jimmy Carter.

From 1997 to 2001, Albright then made history as the first female Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton.

At the time, the position made her the highest-ranking woman in the history of the US government.

What was her cause of death?

Albright's death was first confirmed by her family who released a .

"We are heartbroken to announce that Dr Madeleine K Albright, the 64th US Secretary of State and the first woman to hold that position, passed away earlier today," the statement read.

"We have lost a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend."

It was later revealed that she died after battling cancer.

As news started to spread, a number of politicians took to social media to offer their condolences.

A Department of State spokesperson said: "The impact that she has had on this building is felt every single day in just about every single corner…she was a trailblazer."

 Governor Kathy Hochul added: "Madeleine Albright was a trailblazer for women & a brilliant diplomat.

"As the first female Secretary of State she showed me, and countless others, that gender should never stop us from pursuing public service."

Was Madeleine Albright married?

From 1959 to 1982, Albright was married to American businessman and news publisher Joseph Medill Patterson Albright.

He is known for his career in media and is also the grandson of Joseph Medill Patterson, the founder of New York Daily News.

During the course of their marriage, the former couple welcomed three children, including Alice, Anne, and Katherine.

Despite having a high-profile mother, Albright's children have managed to stay out of the spotlight as not much information is available on them.
