Serving Metropolitan Police officer appears in court charged with rape as he’s suspended from force

A SERVING Met Police cop has appeared in the dock today charged with rape.
PC Ireland Murdock, 25, did not enter a plea to the charge when he appeared for the first time at Croydon Magistrates' Court this morning.
The officer, who is attached to the Central North Command Unit, wore a red suit and tie and white shirt for the hearing.
He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Murdock, of Teddington in south-west London, was arrested on January 11 this year.
It's alleged he committed the offence on Saturday, September 25 last year in Lambeth while off duty.

He has been suspended from duty while proceedings take place.
A spokesperson for the Met said earlier today: "The Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed, as has the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
"The alleged victim is being supported by specialist officers."
The defendant will appear at the Inner London Crown Court for a hearing next month.
