Joe told The Sun: “He’d turn up with flowers and was a gentleman. When he wasn’t psychotic, you couldn’t want for a better boyfriend.”
The relationship took a turn when Joe fell pregnant and the vile killer began to beat her, escalating his attacks over time.
Joe said: “One time he came home from work and I answered him back and he went mental – punching, biting, kicking, pinching.

“Towards the end of the relationship he’d use weapons.
"He hit me with a rubber mallet, he’d burn me with cigarettes - he’d bruise and cut me but it was always from the neck down."
Emma Mills was dating cruel Bellfield at the time he was captured and was even in the house when he hid in the loft from police.
The couple have three children together - their identities are unknown.
Another woman came forward to claim she was pregnant with another one of Bellfield's children at the time of Milly's murder.
She met him under an alias in a nightclub and had a one-night stand but fell pregnant.
She said that her son does not know the identity of his father and never asks about him.

Eldest of the monster's children is Bobbie Bellfield, daughter of Bellfield and Becky Wilkinson.
When she was just 20 years old in 2011, Bobbie wrote to the family of Milly Dowler to apologise.
Bobbie called for her father to face the death penalty, rather than his whole life sentence.
In an open letter to the family she wrote : “You were right when you said ‘a life for a life’. Being locked up is not enough of a punishment for what he has done.”
Bellfield's "favourite girl" apologised for what her father put the family through.
She wrote: “I felt physically sick when I found out he had killed your daughter.
“When Milly disappeared, I remember those missing posters being put up.
"I remember my mum telling us to be careful because a maniac was on the loose.”
Bobbie had lost touch with her father before his arrest in 2004 for the murder of Amelie Delagrange.
