Peter Navarro is the second former aide of Donald Trump that has been convicted of contempt of Congress

FORMER presidential aide Peter Navarro is well-known for his strong opinions on economic policies.

Navarro, who took on different roles during Donald Trump's presidency, has been sentenced to four months behind bars for defying a subpoena related to an investigation of the 2021 attacks on the US Capitol.

Who is Peter Navarro?

Peter Navarro was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on July 15, 1949.

Peter is well-known as an experienced economist and author.

From April 29, 2017, to January 20, 2021, Peter served as Trump's director of trade and industrial policy, and the National Defense Production Act policy coordinator, under the Trump Administration.

Peter is a member of the Republican Party and an economics and public policy professor at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine.

Navarro also ran for office in San Diego five times - each of which he was unsuccessful.

When was Peter Navarro convicted?

Back in September 2023, Navarro was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress after he refused to comply with a subpoena from the House Select Committee, which was investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

On January 25, 2024, he was sentenced to four months in prison.

“You are not a victim, you are not the object of a political prosecution,” US District Judge Amit Mehta said to Navarro, per . “These are circumstances of your own making.”

The news comes not long after Steve Bannon, another one of Trump's former aides, was also convicted and sentenced for contempt of Congress tied to the Capitol attacks. Bannon has appealed his conviction.
