A 22-YEAR-old woman has revealed the horror she endured in the five months she was held captive by her roommate, 59, in southern California.
Peter McGuire is accused of kidnapping the woman and performing gruesome acts including cutting her tongue, nose and ear, and putting out her eye.
He "did unlawfully and maliciously deprive Jane/John Doe of a member of the body and disable, disfigure and render it useless and did cut and disable the tongue and put out an eye and slit the nose, ear and lip of said person," according to a criminal complaint obtained by .
The woman was able to escape on June 9 and found help in a nearby park, police say.
She was taken to a local hospital and is now in stable condition, said the San Bernadino District Attorney's Office.
Authorities said she had visible injuries consistent with the allegations she made.
After the woman first moved into McGuire's house in Chino Hills, California, she was not able to leave and was "subjected to multiple assaults," San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department spokesperson told .
Once authorities searched the house with a warrant, they found evidence of the crimes but McGuire had already fled.
When asked, McGuire's neighbors said they barely ever saw him.
"I've lived here 24 years. I've seen him only once or twice and it's always in the evening," said Jerry Napoli, .
San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department and the sheriff's Specialized Enforcement Division found him two days later, on June 11, in Placentia, California.
McGuire resisted at first by barricading himself into a home in Placentia, but he eventually surrendered to the police.
He is now facing charges of kidnapping, torture, mayhem, rape, false imprisonment, sodomy, forcible oral copulation, and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
He pleaded guilty on Monday, June 13, and is in custody under a no-bond hold.
