BBC journalist Jeremy Vine has slammed a driver who pulled out onto a main road just metres in front of his bike, saying "on another day, he would have killed me".

The disturbing video shows the red car peel out onto the road, leaving Vine audibly shocked as he rides to work.

The broadcast journalist later shared footage of the car, saying "The cycle-commute in London sometimes involves you seeing a driver and thinking, 'On another day, he would have killed me'."

The keen cyclist made headlines in August when he released footage of a driver abusing him for stopping in front of her car.

In the video, the driver can be heard yelling "why would you do that?", later saying "why the f*** would you stop in front of a car? You don't respect your f***ing life."

But just two months after the shocking footage was released, Vine again took to social media to shame another motorist.

Sharing the video, Vine told social media users that the driver of the red car was "the driver I fear", saying he didn't "care about my life or yours."

The red car can barely be seen behind a white car waiting to join the traffic on the main road before it quickly pulls out in front of Vine.

Vine can be heard to say "wow" in the footage after seeing the car seemingly not check before pulling out.

The Strictly star was mostly supported by those commenting on the video, with one man writing: "Didn't look at all there. Very lucky." Another said: "You are SO brave cycling in London!"

But others slammed the video, saying: "For every bad motorist I've seen at least 10 bad cyclists how come you don't put bad cyclists on here Jeremy ? By the way I'm one of those horrible truckers !"

Another wrote: "Jeremy as far as I can see the car driver had plenty of time to see you and assess you speed before he arrived at the junction.

"He thought he had time to exit the side street in front of you and pull away without causing you to alter your speed or course.

"He was right, he didn't cause you to alter your speed or course, the fact that he made you jump because you weren't paying attention isn't his fault it's yours."

The video has now been viewed more than 29,000 times.

Vine later clarified the incident, writing on Facebook: "To be clear - for the user who said 'he was a long way from you' - his actions did not threaten me directly.

"But he pulled out of a side road at speed when he couldn't possibly see if the cycle lane was clear, and had I been 10 seconds earlier to work I would have been his victim."

He also shared a comment piece that noted driving was "the sole event in most people's everyday lives where there is a plausible, if remote, chance they could kill another human being."

Vine, who claimed that 113 pedestrians are killed on the pavement by vehicles for every one by a cyclist, also told those commenting on the video that the driver was "apparently not insured".

He also argued with those leaving comments that the car had plenty of time to see him, saying: "Had I been passing the white car I believe he would have hit me. He should not have emerged like that when his view was obstructed."
