Department of Education figures for the school year ending July 2021 reveal 73,229 children were suspended and 878 expelled for assaulting another pupil.

Some 24,389 children were suspended for attacking a teacher and 568 were expelled.

Shockingly, 41 pupils in nursery class, which children typically start aged three, were suspended for attacking another child, and 57 sent home for assaulting a teacher.

In reception, which kids start aged four, 1,609 pupils were suspended for attacking a teacher.

Seven were expelled.

Christopher McGovern, of the Campaign for Real Education, said: “Out-of-control children are ruining the education of other pupils and driving teachers out of the profession.”

The Department for Education said: “Permanent exclusion should only be used as a last resort.”
