CLOWNING AROUND

A dad who said he was ‘disabled for life’ by a killer clown has been slapped with a fine for making it up

Lying Simon Chinery actually injured his hand falling on broken glass

A DAD who claimed he was left disabled for life by a killer clown brandishing a 10-inch knife has been prosecuted for making the whole thing up.

Simon Chinery, 28, claimed he was at a cashpoint after a night out when his "horror movie" attacker in green wig slashed at him.

He said he was left disabled for life after having three fingers slashed by the killer clown but cops have revealed the joiner just fell on broken glass.

Dad-of-one Simon has now been hit with a fine for wasting police time.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: "After looking into this report we have established that the man was not attacked by a clown and had in fact injured his hand falling on broken glass.

"We are aware that widespread media coverage of this allegation may have been unsettling for local residents and we would like to reassure the public that no crime has taken place on this occasion.

"We have now issued a 28-year-old man from Blackburn with a penalty notice for wasting police time.

"We work extremely hard investigating serious crime and our time needs to remain focused on genuine incidents."

Simon hit the headlines after claiming he felled the clown with a punch and fled, soaked in blood, in Blackburn, Lancs.

The dad, of Shadsworth, said at the time: "I was petrified, sick to my stomach.

"He didn't have a mask on but his make-up looked scary. His eyes were piercing black. I panicked, he held the knife towards me and I used my instinct and tried to push the knife away. I grabbed it and he pulled. I worked against the blade and my fingers exploded. There was blood everywhere.

"It happened so quickly. I was in shock and ran home. My mum phoned an ambulance and I was taken to hospital straight away."

The lying joiner, added: "This attack has ruined my life. I am disabled from this and can't return to my trade. I am just glad I wasn't with my son. I was absolutely hysterical. I have been having nightmares and the pain is unreal."

He said of the unnerving killer-clown prankster craze that's arrived on Britain's streets from the US: "Parents and kids need to know what's happening because it's getting out of control. The police need to do something, it's a joke too far."
