British porn lovers’ sexual preferences to be ‘collected on national database’
Campaigners fear Westminster is dead set on creating an erotic archive of Brits' predilections

BRITISH porn lovers could soon find their kinks and predilections collected on a controversial smut register, campaigners have claimed.
The government is currently exploring ways of making sure anyone aged under 18 does not stumble across sex flicks online.
But campaigners fear that the only way to do this is to create a massive database of the UK's porn habits.
Westminster wants to introduce an age verification scheme which ensure that only people aged 18 or over can access pornography.
Activists from the Open Rights Group have claimed that only way to do this is by "building databases of the nation’s porn-surfing habits".
If this romp register is not properly protected it could "appear on Wikileaks" and ruin the lives of smut hounds across the country.
Jim Killock, executive director, wrote: "User data in these systems will be especially sensitive, being linked to private sexual preferences and potentially impacting particularly badly on sexual minorities if it goes wrong, through data breaches or simple chilling effects.
"This data is regarded as particularly sensitive in law."
A database of porn-lovers poses a major privacy and security risk. It would also be a major target for hackers, because they could use the information to blackmail people.
The Open Rights Group also raised questions about how effective it would be, because clever youngsters would inevitably find ways to cheat the system and access naughty content.
Killock added: "There is no evidence that Age Verification will prevent an even slightly determined teenager from accessing pornography, nor reduce demand for it among young people.
"The Government appears to be looking for an easy fix to a complex social problem.
"The internet has given young people unprecedented access to adult content but it’s education rather than tech solutions that are most likely to address problems arising from this."
